ABOUT THE GAME
CTF_Osgiliath is a 3v3 capture the flag map built for Unreal Tournament. It was built to exist within the Lord of the Rings universe in the ruined city of Osgiliath.
This map features strategic paths and routes that cater to many different playstyles: from flanking to sniping, all players are welcome!

DESIGN GOALS
CTF_Osgiliath was a design challenge to fit a fantasy style map into the sci-fi universe of Unreal Tournament 4. Making the world feel like it exists within lord of the rings, but plays well in a fast paced arena shooter.
Designing the level to play in a 3v3 format kept the scope lower, lowering the number of required paths and shortening them, allowing higher quality engagements between players.
Another goal of mine was to allow multiple playstyles to thrive in using different paths and cover layouts.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Playtesting was the biggest factor in making a balanced and engaging level. Through playtesting, I was able to see paths players weren't taking. For example, players wouldn't take the river path, because they thought jumping off the bridge was hazardous, and didn't see the stairs going down from their bases. So I was able to change the stairs to make them more visible, and adding pickups visible from the bridge.
Using an asset pack is a useful and extremely efficient way to quickly give a level form and appeal before deciding on final art assets, should they eventually be created.
